Would it rain or wouldn't it? Even though the forecast kept changing, and ultimately the moonbounces were canceled, it didn't put a damper on our end of the year carnival. The Fun 'n' Fit Fest still went on and, even indoors, the kids got plenty of exercise!
Attendees got to try out Zumba, Karate, play carnival games (did anyone land a poison dart frog on a lily pad?), get their faces painted, build an awesome structure with the Kaboom equipment (or chase each other around wildly with the "pool noodles"), or do a cupcake dance. For entertainment, the magician Abracadabra Alex put on two shows that kept his audiences amazed and giggling.
In the cafeteria, the PTA garden volunteers put out an amazing salad bar and dressing sampling station with produce from our school garden supplemented by items from the local Crossroads Community Food Network Farmer's Market. Participants got to try out different dressing flavors and then create their own salad.
Linkages to Learning helped to support our carnival, with a smoothie sampling station. We discovered that kale smoothies might be a bigger hit than strawberry or banana smoothies! We also had pupusas, taquitos, elote loco and shaved ice for sale (among other items) from two local vendors.
Thank you to the multitude of volunteers who helped this event get off the ground!
